Goldwind Wenzhou Factory Delivers First Export Order

April 18, 2024

Two heavy-duty tractor trucks carrying Goldwind Technology’s GW155-4.5MW wind turbine slowly drove out from Goldwind’s Wenzhou manufacturing and export base of large-capacity wind turbines for offshore wind power and waited in the open space for departure. These special passengers will transfer to cargo ships at Taicang Port in Jiangsu Province and head to Pakistan. They will eventually be assembled and operated in Thatta County, Sindh Province, and connected to the grid for power generation. This is the first export order delivered by the country’s largest wind power equipment manufacturer.

Goldwind’s Wenzhou manufacturing base is located in the Wenzhou Marine Economic Development Demonstration Zone, Zhejiang Province. It is designed and constructed according to the production needs of ultra-large-capacity offshore units above 25MW. The factory building is 210 meters long, 84 meters wide, and 31.5 meters high. The overall construction area is the largest in the same industry in China. The delivery of the first export order means that Goldwind, China’s leading wind power company, and Wenzhou, a large private economic city, have joined hands to take a new step to help build the “Belt and Road” with new quality productivity.

The order includes two Goldwind GW155-4.5MW units with a single power of 4.5MW and an annual power generation of over 20 million kilowatt-hours under rated power operation, which can meet the annual electricity needs of approximately 10,000 households of three. In order to adapt to the local climate characteristics, Goldwind customized the functions of this batch of units to withstand high temperatures and prevent wind and sand. It also designed self-consumption power solutions for the project and provided operation and maintenance services to help build a more efficient clean energy system.

Goldwind has also brought industrial upgrading to Wenzhou. Goldwind business covers six continents and 38 countries around the world. Its annual newly installed capacity has ranked first in the Chinese market for 13 consecutive years and ranked among the top three in the world for nine consecutive years. In 2022, Goldwind, together with 11 upstream and downstream supporting companies, signed a contract to establish the Wenzhou Goldwind Deep Sea Offshore Wind Power Zero-Carbon Headquarters Base. The planned total investment of 43 billion yuan ranks first in the city’s new energy projects. As the core of the project, Goldwind’s Wenzhou manufacturing base was first completed and put into operation. In December 2023, the 16MW offshore wind turbine model rolled off the assembly line here holds the three records of “the largest single unit capacity, the largest impeller diameter, and the lightest weight per megawatt” of the world’s installed wind turbines.

Driven by leading enterprises, Wenzhou’s enterprises above designated size in the new energy industry achieved an output value of 151.1 billion yuan in 2023, a year-on-year increase of 11.3%; the new energy industry contributed 24.8% to the added value of the city’s enterprises above designated size, ranking first among Wenzhou’s leading industries. It ranks first in the province in investment in energy projects and ranks second in the province in newly added new energy installed capacity.

Xiong Bozeng, general manager of Zhejiang Goldwind Technology Co., Ltd., said: “Taking the first export order as a new starting point, Goldwind will use the Wenzhou base as a strategic pivot to develop the blue ocean of offshore wind power and deepen overseas markets, and build a comprehensive enterprise integrating R&D, manufacturing, engineering, operation and maintenance. The whole industry chain and clustered world-class deep-sea, large-megawatt, floating offshore wind power zero-carbon headquarters base will take more orders from overseas markets and contribute to the development of Zhejiang’s marine economy through the export of major equipment.”

According to the Energy Bureau of the Wenzhou Municipal Development and Reform Commission, Wenzhou is accelerating to build a national new energy production capacity center and application demonstration city. By the end of 2030, the city’s total installed power capacity will reach 33.2 million kilowatts, and the proportion of clean energy installed capacity will reach 65.8%.
